Barack Obama: Menswear Leadership
“A brother should pull up their pants!” said Barack Obama in a recent MTV interview. Not that wearing low-strung pants are against the law, he assures. Nor that he would even dream of passing such a ludicrous law.
It seems the whole world is looking to Obama for all kinds of direction and inspiration, and in the fashion world, obviously, there has been a whole season of Obama-inspired outfits.
Menswear in particular have the likes of Donatella Versace honouring her Spring/Summer 2009 to her muse of Obama as the example of “a relaxed man who doesn’t need to flex his muscles to show he has power.”
Yet in terms of muscles – he sure has them!
Elie Tahari says the fashion world is about to have so much fun with obama because “He is built so well. He could be a male model.”
Why is it that a politician such as Barack Obama is suddenly in the fashion spotlight? I think Donatella (once again) sums it perfectly:
“He represents change, a new relaxed spirit for today and fashion is all about change.”

A great post. President Obama is indeed a fashionable leader. He is a perfect storm for inspiring confidence. And I’m certain his sartorial choices and tastes are no accident. This is a man who understands the power having presence.
