CFDA Award Recipient: Alexander Wang
Obviously this is a name we should be getting to know better. As this lucky lad just received the top honours award at the CFDA Gala event in New York last night. Alexander Wang headed home with a $200,000 cheque to invest in his future business, plus a whole year’s mentoring experiences with CFDA’s top designers.
2004 winners of the exact same award Proenza Schouler are now one of the hottest names in the current fashion world.
John Galliano was guest speaker of the night, and this year’s selection committee was made up of: CFDA president Diane von Furstenberg; CFDA executive director Steven Kolb and associate director Lisa Smilor; Vogue’s Anna Wintour and Sally Singer; Theory’s Andrew Rosen; Coach’s Reed Krakoff; Jeffrey Kalinsky of Jeffrey New York and Nordstrom; Gap’s Patrick Robinson, and Barneys New York’s Julie Gilhart.
Other past winners have been: 3.1 Phillip Lim, Philip Crangi Jewelry, Rodarte, Thakoon, Derek Lam, Thom Browne, Cloak and Habitual.
