Christian Dior & Chinese Artists – Opening Night
Well it finally happened! Opening Night on Saturday night (November 15th) at the Ullens Center for Contemporary Art in Beijing for the exhibition Christian Dior & Chinese Artists had a huge turnout, with big names such as Charlize Theron, Eva Green and Marion Cotillard donning on their best Dior outfits (I think).
The whole exhibition covered 32,000 square feet and totalled 22 pieces by 22 artists. Opening night involved dinner and lots of photo snapping. Many popular Chinese and Hong Kong celebrities appeared as well (Maggie Cheung, Shawn Yue, Zhao Wei).
The exhibition is really an excellent example of how art can inspire fashion and vice versa. The artists were given the freedom to express anything they desired – even if the pieces connoted a somewhat discerning critique of the fashion industry as a whole. One Chinese artist had a runway with skeletons displayed.
The current man behind the whole empire himself, John Galliano, was looking dashing with his ironed-straight hair and totally androgynous vibe (especially if you looked at him from behind).
