Couldn’t they have Simply Photoshopped?
Modeling is all about taking risks, sure, yet when it comes to having to model with animals, babies or cold water – haven’t photographers learned the lesson from the horror stories by now?
Elephants are relatively okay, as they are passive creatures used to the company of humans. Yet for Isabeli Fontana in a the May Pierelli calendar shoot in Botswana, she had to rub up against a grasshopper! The Brazilian supermodel even shed a tear from the trauma. In the end most of the photos don’t look any different from something that has been Photoshopped, so why did they force the model to do that in the first place?
There is now video available which shows the model with the tear running down her face. For all aspiring models, I say, good luck to you, but try to get to know your limits before you sign these kinds of contracts.
Photographer responsible for the shoot was Peter Beard, who regularly works with animals and fashion models.

I think they should learn to deal with reality. Anything can be photoshopped, but it doesn’t make it real. Same reason as they could shoot any beach shots in a studio and add the background later – it just wouldn’t look right.
I hope the models had a chance to enjoy the beauty of Botswana and to appreciate the natural open spaces. I think it’s good for everyone, especially those who spend most of their time in the cities, to experience the natural beauty of our planet.
