Another Beckham for Armani

Well, everybody’s talking about it, so how could we at edictive not? Victoria Beckham has signed off a contract to model Giorgio Armani’s new Emporio Armani underwear. Woohoo! If it’s going to be about as sizzling as the David Beckham ones then I’m all for it, and totally excited.

I think the Armani sales are gona go through the roof this Christmas even before Posh Spice has been snapped. Such is the power of Beckham-mania these days… and since fashion modeling doesn’t actually require speech, I believe she is perfect for the job.

Get Out Your Highlighters, Ladies *and* Gentleman!

Seoul Fashion Week concluded yesterday with quite a bang. The highlights were really dull in my opinion compared to the bright neon-fleuro (literal!) highlights of the Spring/Summer 2009 collection by Ha Sang Beg which screeeeeamed ”LOOK AT MEEEE!!!”

Not bad for attempting to bring the ‘fresh’ back into Spring. Also loving the androgyny. Apparently his inspiration was Alice in Wonderland… (if she dropped into a fourth grader’s pencil case?!) Actually, something more like a pond, according to Sang Beg, “a world of creatures, from flowers to dinosaurs.”

I think of Ha Sang Beg as the ‘creepy badass‘ of Seoul fashion. The appeal is something along the same parameters of how some people either love or hate techno music.

Soybeans, Corn, Bamboo & Silk: Oka Masako

One of the highlights from Mexico Fashion Week this year has been Oka Masako’s ECOMACO collection of eco-fashion made with ecologically friendly fabrics. Though Masako herself has been working with eco-textiles for over 10 years, this is the first time that the world has finally caught on to what she has been trying to communicate all along.

Her collection shown at Mexico Fashion Week displayed organic forms, flower decorations and earthy yet modern colour palettes of white and cream with ruffles and layers. Masako says her clothes have been designed so that they are comfortable, practical, and like a “second skin” for the wearer. ”If it’s good for the environment, it must be good for you as well.”

Eco-fashion is on the rise now and just after watching yet another newsbit tonight on TV about how the Earth is, well, collapsing under all our shit, I have decided that it really is something of concern which we could all take into consideration.

What I like about Masako’s collection is that it remains feminine and adds a sense of tenderness to the fashion world. It’s somehow quite a refreshing contrast and the clothes are like pieces of art in their own way with the (pun intended) layers of messages they represent.

Russia Fashion Week Opens with a Thai Princess

Comments (2) by Nicole.C
Princess Sirivannavari Nariratana (checked that three times for correct spelling!) of Thailand – granddaughter to the current King Bhumibol Adulyadej – launched her new collection, ‘Ethnic Rock’ at Russia Fashion Week on Tuesday. The princess herself strutted down the catwalk in her own designs with sleek wavy hair and bright red lips. *Va-va-vamp*

The princess had already shown the collection at Paris Fashion Week and Elle Fashion Week, and the responses to such ‘royal’ designs have been all quite positive. It’s always so much more interesting when real princesses enter into the fashion world rather than wannabes.

Meanwhile, Russia Fashion Week differs from Moscow Fashion Week in that it encourages foreign designers to participate.

Pictures of the full Ethnic Rock collection can be found at ThaiCatwalk.com. I think the collection has its share of hits and misses. Though there are some really gorgeous dresses which I am definitely placing on my Christmas Wishlist.

London Fashion Week Dates Confirmed for 2009

Forget Halloween, Christmas, the New Year, or even Valentines Day. The countdown you should be anticipating is the one to the beginning of the most exciting whirlwind of events that is due to be starting from the last week of February, 2009 in the city of London. It’s been confirmed that London Fashion Week will be a five-day event from Friday February 20th to Tuesday February 24th, 2009, which does happen to clash with the first day of New York Fashion Week… but competition never did fashion any harm. (In fact, competition is the healthiest part of having fashion in the first place, in my opinion!)

The significance of the 2009 event in London is that it will also be part of the 25th anniversary for London’s contemporary fashion industry. Apparently the event results in orders of over £100 million a year. No wonder why fashion weeks are popping up in practically every major city in the world now.

In all honesty, though, this year’s London Fashion Week SS09 collections haven’t really stood out to me as anything incredibly original. Lots of horizontal layering, flowing fabrics and the like. It’s all very ‘now’ but I don’t see anything ‘new’. Apart from this bizarre fondness of unpretty headgear which I believe must have been insisted upon by designers who hate women.

The Legacy of Coco Is About to Become 20% More Profitable

Forget shares, hunnies. In this kind of volatile state of world economies, the best investment you could be making for yourself is the purchasing of a classic Chanel bag. The above pictured classic Caviar Jumbo Flap Bag is currently being sold at $2,850, and will soon be catapulted into the price range of $3,420.

With less than one week until November 1st — the date Chanel has announced will be the beginning of 20% higher prices on all its classic handbag collection — I say, “Hurrrry!”

“Fashion is always a reflection of its own time, but we forget this if it is stupid.”

(Mademoiselle Coco Chanel)

I don’t blame them for the price increase. Coco Chanel is such an icon, the brand is practically a religion. I would pay the $3,420 when I have the $3,420 to spend.

NADA: A Modern Twist on Tie-Dye Hippie Chick

Comments (2) by Nicole.C
I know I paid out Junya Watanabe before for going ‘greenie’ and having birds’ nests on her models’ heads, but this time around I am quite proud to be promoting the likes of NADA from this year’s L’Oreal Toronto Fashion Week.

I like her disciplined segmentation of the square-patterned tie-dye, the way the leather belt holds the flowy fabrics together. The earthy greens and regal purples. Everything about this collection is organic yet refined.

Apparently this collection was inspired by the Greek Goddess Athena, however I see it as having a rather medieval flavour attached. Either way, I like it cos it’s still undeniably modern.
