Stencil, Oriental Patterns and Tassles at Armani Prive Haute Couture SS09

There is so much beauty in the Armani Couture show. Some excellent pieces inspired by oriental patterns and at the other end of the spectrum, really gorgeous stencil decoration that evokes Western romanticism.

And some other shapes and forms which are just different, sheek, elegant and feminine.

The only problem I have is the section of purple and yellow clothes right in the middle of the collection on this Paris runway. I don’t know why Armani went there. It’s really Willy Wonka – and women do NOT want to be like Willy Wonka. So why Armani went there? Well, I’d love to be enlightened.

The gold dresses are awesome. And the patterns are so organic it actually reminds me of Kate Cusack’s recycled zipper jewelry. Also about transforming artificial objects into organic shapes and beauty.

The hair really reminds me of Japanese kabuki, which is interesting since Lagerfeld for Chanel was also inspired by Japanese origami paper for his couture collection.

Mischa Barton and Kanye West front row at Elie Saab Couture

Well, he said he was serious about the fashion thing and Kanye West really does seem to be getting the best tickets in town to be anywhere that is worth being at in terms of the fashion scenes.

If only I had known when I was a little girl that all I needed was to be a rapper to get front tickets to the Paris couture shows. That could’ve saved me many hours actually taking fashion drawing classes!

Either be a rapper or a famous actress, I suppose. Though Mischa Barton really didn’t look um… awake. (And, in contrast, Kanye looked like a kid in a candy store!)

There was some obvious kimono-inspired pieces in the Elie Saab couture SS09 collection, as well as a lot of drapery and florals. Plenty of soft, floaty fabrics in gorgeous pastels and bright, beautiful golds. This is becoming an undeniable trend, the fascination with kimono/oriental touches in couture this season.

Christian Dior Haute Couture Spring/Summer 2009

I think John Galliano was inspired by wedding cakes when he designed this collection. There is so much light, fluffy, poofy, pretty gowns that it just reminds me of wedding cakes. The dresses are so delicious looking I want to EAT them.

It’s also a lot of old world glamour with a really modern twist. And I mean really old world. Victorian era-evoking dresses and romantic patterns. Though not ALL the dresses were floor-length, of course, yet it all resembled a really, un-sporty sense of femininity.

The shorter dresses were like 50s silhouettes, and lots of ribbons, bows and giant hats went up and down the Christian Dior runway as well.

One interesting feature in some of the dresses was this sort of ribboning effect along the bottom edges of the skirts. It creates a really flirty, fun and quirky look. The collection is precisely what couture is supposed to be. It is something really novel, and introduces very new ideas for fashion.

Chanel Couture gets Trippy

23 year old model Alexandra Tomlinson tripped on the Chanel Couture runway yesterday in Paris. Yes, she was wearing some very high heels, yet in the model world that’s no excuse. And everyone feels sorry for her, as she will obviously now be known as ‘that model who tripped during the Chanel show.’

The rest of the Chanel couture show was alright – a lot of black, white and black and white. And an absolutely crazy flower-wrap hair decoration theme going on. Mr Lagerfeld, I don’t know what you were thinking. I guess by making a model’s head bigger it essentially makes her body seem even smaller and lean.

I like the sheer dresses, though. And the crispness of the white color itself. One really off piece, however, was the horizontal striped ensemble. I don’t know what the point of that was, it looks half-finished.

Overall, it was an obvious floral theme mixed with a lot of futuristic vibe – quite refreshing to the nostalgia for ‘classic’ looks that we saw for the fall, actually.

Though actual spokespeople from Macpherson’s team refuse to comment, the news is buzzing around the inter-webs and there is photographic evidence of Supermodel Elle Macpherson appearing in public with British businessman Damian Aspinall.

Not just any regular businessman, though, of course, Damian Aspinall is son of the late zoo owner and renowned gambler John Aspinall. Now, aside from the juicyness of this potential love pairing, the details of juice goes that the well and truly alive Damian Aspinall is the ex-husband of British TV presenter Donna Air.

Some people believe the couple would be a great match, as both are 44 years old, over 6 ft tall and incredibly rich. Aspinall’s fortune is estimated at around $80 million, and Elle’s own fortune from her lingerie and modelling empire is estimated at $125 million.

The news broke out when the pair were spotted at London’s Old Vic theatre: “They were all over each other as soon as they arrived at the theatre. It was like watching a pair of teenagers,” reported the Mirror, UK.

February Vogue Russia stars Victoria Beckham on its cover with a military cap and her thumb in her mouth. Not sure what connotation that was supposed to exude, exactly, however the actual fashion shoot featuring Victoria Beckham’s own line of clothing was pretty cool.

Becks told Russian Vogue that the inspiration for her collection was herself, of course, however forties and fifties underwear were influential as well. “I hope the silhouette is what every woman wants to wear,” said Beckham, who claims to have totally lived in all the dresses in order to “work out what feels right.”

Fellow British star Cheryl Cole, however was a tad negative with her comments in a recent interview, saying, “It’s not like stuff we would wear.” And by ‘we’ she meant young women, implying that Beckham’s tastes were out-dated. *Meow*

Meanwhile, Italy has unveiled the first ad poster for Emporio Armani underwear that features both David and Victoria Beckham.

So it wasn’t Diane von Furstenberg nor Kai Milla. It wasn’t even Oscar de la Renta or Narciso Rodriguez – though that would’ve been a very close guess, as she did wear Rodriguez again on Sunday.

Michelle Obama appeared at the much anticipated Inauguration Ball in a lovely ivory one-shoulder strapped Jason Wu dress, with crystal beaded embroidery and rosette embellishments.

Somehow it felt as if we were at their second wedding or something – or was I the only one who got that impression?

It was a lovely dress, lovely choice, and boy is the fashion world excited about Michelle Obama now being officially the First Lady of America.

“To have a First Lady who loves fashion, and who is promoting American designers, is so important and we need that so much, with the way the economy has impacted fashion, and everybody trying to make their way through it,” said Rodriguez.
