Doll Dressing: Designers for Russian Vogue’s 10th Anniversary

There’s nothing cuter than when designers make Russian dolls of their design aesthetics. Celebrating 10 years of Russian Vogue, the magazine invited fashion’s biggest names to design a dress for matryoshka, the traditional Russian doll. Each doll will be auctioned off at a charity event on November 20th.
The dolls were hand-painted by Russian craftsmen, as they followed precisely the design sketches and instructions from each designer. It may look tiny and cute on these pictures but each doll is actually 50 centimetres tall.
It’s certainly not the first time that designers had associated their talents with dolls – e.g. Blythe Dolls – however what perhaps makes the matryoshkas unique is that they are part of the grandeur and nostalgia of Russian culture and history. It’s incredibly fun and dazzling to see these ‘old gals’ totally modernized. Representing both tradition and a look towards the future, Russian Vogue picked a perfect mascot for celebrating their 10th anniversary.
