Donatella Versace in China (with Jet Li)
Donatella Versace was welcomed with a countryside fashion show in the schoolyard of which she helped to re-build when she arrived with Jet Li to Sanjing on Tuesday. As previously reported, Versace was in China for both the debut runway event in Beijing, as well as to support Jet Li’s One Foundation which helps rebuild schools for children from this year’s Sichuan earthquakes.
“I don’t ask for CEOs money, I ask for their hearts,” said Li. “With hearts we can change a lot.”
China is supposedly about to replace the US in terms of Versace’s largest market after Europe. Currently it is competing with houses of Gucci and Giorgio Armani for the top spot in Asia. And let’s not forget Christian Dior’s involvement with the recent art exhibitions in collaboration with Chinese artists.
Four new Versace boutiques are to open in China in 2009, totalling the number of Versace boutiques in China to a modest 19.
