Fierce Moody Mamas: Christian Siriano’s new Maternity Line

This was by far the furthest from what I could have expected to come from the avant-garde ruffle-king (and ‘fierce’ overuser) Christian Siriano, winner of Project Runway Season 4.

It almost feels like an extension of a Project Runway challenge – “Launch a whole collection of maternity wear using your signature style!” and then Tim Gunn will say, “I don’t know Christian… it’s looking a little… well, just make it work.”

Alas, Tim Gunn was nowhere in sight at the launch of this Holiday collection in the West Village Belly Dance Boutique, where mothers-to-be may find a sanctuary of fashionable and chic options for their adornment.

I wanted to design a collection that was both wearable but luxurious, something that was cool, but not frumpy or boring. I used fabrics like jersey, cashmere, chiffon and charmeuse so its great for a mom who doesn’t won’t compromise on her style but still wants to look good and be comfortable,” said Siriano.
