Giving Peace a Chance (@ Barney’s, New York)

Whilst Printemps in Paris is having a very futuristic space-age theme for their holiday windows, Barneys New York has gone backwards to the nostalgic times of 1960s hippie fun and psychedelic colors. Designers Diane von Furstenberg, Proenza Schouler, Narciso Rodriguez, Donna Karan and others were invited to design outfits inspired by the peace sign, and below are some drawings as teasers of what can be seen in the window displays.

The theme in the Barneys 2008 holiday windows is the celebration of the peace sign’s 50th anniversary. The windows are also a reflection of Tom Brokaw’s book, Boom! Voices of the Sixties: Personal Reflections on the ’60s and Today. As the unveiling of the new windows occurred on Saturday the 16th of November, shoppers were encouraged to spend particularly on that day as 5% of the sales were donated to non-profit Earth Pledge.

A Volkswagen Beetle was also specially painted by New York artist John-Paul Phillippe, and tickets may be purchased in-store or online to be in the draw to win the car after its ‘run in the window’.
