Gwyneth Paltrow in Antonio Berardi
Some horrified fashion commentators were criticising Gwyneth Paltrow’s wardrobe choice at the Paris premiere of her new movie Two Lovers. Gwyneth turned up in a white and black lace, sheer-torso dress from Antonio Berardi’s Spring 2009 collection. Some thought it was a fashion faux pas – they obviously haven’t seen Mr Berardi’s collections.
Antonio Berardi is definitely one of those designers who loves to see a woman wearing sheer fabrics and exuding sexuality. The Spring/Summer 2009 shown at Paris Fashion Week actually had quite a colourful palette with bright pinks, reds and blues – along with lots of white, cream and black.
Admittedly Gwyneth could have chosen a less controversial dress, however, I believe from a publicist’s point of view, this dress did exactly what it was supposed to.
And compared to the rest of the looks seen at recent runway shows, it’s rather quite a conservative option. Antonio Berardi’s clothes are sexy, but they are also about an inner confidence. Even with his works with sheer features, the clothes still look classy.

I don’t think I could wear see through clothes – even if my body looked like theirs!

That Berardi dress actually looks better on Paltrow than it does on the model!
