La Perla obviously didn’t do so well at Milan Fashion Week
So, all the styles we saw from La Perla at Milan Fashion Week, obviously didn’t do quite as well as they must’ve hoped, and unfortunately for the La Perla staff: a new boss is in town. And culling jobs.
Recent reports have estimated that 365 jobs from La Perla’s head office in Bologna will be cut under the new ownership of JH Partners. The new owners say they want a complete re-branding to stay ahead in today’s market.
In terms of their most recent Spring 2009 ready-to-wear collection, I do have to say that it didn’t stand out against the giants of Fendi, Dolce & Gabbana, and of course, Versace.
The collection really had its share of unflattering pieces, which to me showed no reason to feel any confidence from the buyers’ point of view. Why the frumpy fabric gatherings at areas that women don’t like frumpy gatherings? Why the oddly cut silhouettes draped with lace, which just confuses the eyes and seem a little too tacky to be ‘sexy’ or ‘classy’?
Though I think La Perla still has a bright – or reasonably lit – future ahead of itself, since it’s name was mentioned on a recent Ugly Betty episode with guest-star Lindsay Lohan.

La Perla has a unique line. The first two dresses don’t leave much to the imagination and the second two cover up way too much!
