Forget Halloween, Christmas, the New Year, or even Valentines Day. The countdown you should be anticipating is the one to the beginning of the most exciting whirlwind of events that is due to be starting from the last week of February, 2009 in the city of London. It’s been confirmed that London Fashion Week will be a five-day event from Friday February 20th to Tuesday February 24th, 2009, which does happen to clash with the first day of New York Fashion Week… but competition never did fashion any harm. (In fact, competition is the healthiest part of having fashion in the first place, in my opinion!)

The significance of the 2009 event in London is that it will also be part of the 25th anniversary for London’s contemporary fashion industry. Apparently the event results in orders of over £100 million a year. No wonder why fashion weeks are popping up in practically every major city in the world now.

In all honesty, though, this year’s London Fashion Week SS09 collections haven’t really stood out to me as anything incredibly original. Lots of horizontal layering, flowing fabrics and the like. It’s all very ‘now’ but I don’t see anything ‘new’. Apart from this bizarre fondness of unpretty headgear which I believe must have been insisted upon by designers who hate women.

  1. Hey Vicky,
Fashion shows apparently are a “showcasing” the creativity of the designers. Apart from some top echelon designers I wonder if any of them consider garments that “promote the beauty of” women. Sad to say, 85% of their creations look like an ad for clown school. The knock offs are always better suited to real women.
