Max Mara Pre-Fall 2009: Some Hits & Misses
Hits – use of plus-sized model. Really nice to see high-fashion house showing the wearability of their pieces. The model looks great. Very elegant and modern, totally suitable to the Max Mara customer base of sophisticated executive-level women or ladies of luxury.
Misses – the brown dress with the belt in the middle and the layers going towards the center. It’s just a bit brown mess. The technique of drawing lines into the centre is supposed to minimise the illusion of a belly and such, yet with this dress, it’s just not happening. Possibly due to the fabric or the way the layers have been constructed. I can’t pinpoint it, it just sucks.
Hits – the long-knit cardigan/overcoat. Max Mara has managed to make a coat that is comfortable and could get away with formal settings as well.
Hits – the grey flower-patterned dress and overcoat.
Overall - The general vibe of the collection is really, what previous years people would have been called ‘Jackie-O’ yet now I supposed we are obliged to refer to it as ‘Michelle O’. Very elegant.
Despite the brown dress, Max Mara gets my vote!
