Prince Charles: Menswear Fashion Icon
(Personally I think that hat and polka-dot tie says it all: this man is ‘style’! – And always with a handkerchief in his pocket.)
That’s right, darlings. Not William or Harry. (Well, I might get around to explaining Harry’s fashion associations later in the week so stay tuned!) The fashion icon to acknowledge today is none other than the distinguished older gentleman himself, HRH The Prince of Wales.
Bringing back the timeless elegance of the gentry, this season, it’s all about looking aristocratic and distinguished. (Even Boyzone tried to do it with their debut comeback single.) And it was all thanks to Tom Ford, who pioneerd the re-introduction of aristocratic style from his tailoring line last year.
“The male royal style has displayed to men around the world how to dress in a sophisticated manner. Nowhere is luxury better emphasised, with the finest materials and fabrics in exquisite cuts,” said Alessandro Sartori, creative director of Ermenegildo Zegna.
Vivienne Westwood says she likes Prince Charles – despite her anti-monarchy punk movement in the 1970s:
“I think he deserves our respect. British people have always looked to royalty for inspiration. It has been even more apparent in the current men’s wear trends, with the recurrence of traditional British fabrics, formal tailoring, polo-inspired outfits and equestrian styles; fashion that we associate with royalty.”
