Soybeans, Corn, Bamboo & Silk: Oka Masako
One of the highlights from Mexico Fashion Week this year has been Oka Masako’s ECOMACO collection of eco-fashion made with ecologically friendly fabrics. Though Masako herself has been working with eco-textiles for over 10 years, this is the first time that the world has finally caught on to what she has been trying to communicate all along.
Her collection shown at Mexico Fashion Week displayed organic forms, flower decorations and earthy yet modern colour palettes of white and cream with ruffles and layers. Masako says her clothes have been designed so that they are comfortable, practical, and like a “second skin” for the wearer. ”If it’s good for the environment, it must be good for you as well.”
Eco-fashion is on the rise now and just after watching yet another newsbit tonight on TV about how the Earth is, well, collapsing under all our shit, I have decided that it really is something of concern which we could all take into consideration.
What I like about Masako’s collection is that it remains feminine and adds a sense of tenderness to the fashion world. It’s somehow quite a refreshing contrast and the clothes are like pieces of art in their own way with the (pun intended) layers of messages they represent.

It’s always (99% of the time) apparent to me when a female designer is at work as opposed to a male. The woman shopper is not being force fed some unflattering crap but is being softly drawn in to purchase something that will actually look good on her and other women of a normal weight. I love everything about these eco friendly garments.

These are soft and fluttery. I don’t think I could wear them to school though. When the hem is not straight it means they are too fancy to wear to school. I like all of them.
