Spring 2009 Ready-to-Wear: Lanvin
Alber Elbaz seemed to put his split personality on display during the Lanvin show. The first half of the collection was the epitome of simplicity born of construction while the latter half exploded with bold colors, prints, gowns and glamour. Instead of seeming like a parade out of the closet of a madwoman, the collection represented grounded glamour girls with their feet on the earth and their minds in the stars.
The “simple” portion embraced cloque, georgette, gazar and satin in solid colors. The constructed cuts came via puffed sleeves, marvelous draping and skillful darting. The feisty finish favored the shades blue and purple.
Embellishments included jewels, embroidery of the sparkling and traditional sorts and even some flowers. A show that began with a somewhat sober acknowledgement of the fashion form ended with a joyous celebration of all that still could be. A heavy task for many philosophers yet Elbaz makes it seem as natural as breathing.

Lanvin knows how to make a statement – wrinkled and bunched up is the new style!

The necklaces are a bit overkill – way too much!
