Stills from Lagerfeld’s Chanel Silent Film
Finally there are some stills released from the silent film Karl Lagerfeld made for Chanel’s upcoming pre-fall ready-to-wear collection. Starring Tallulah Ornsby-Gore (Harlech) as she plays a Chanel model who sells her real-life mother a Chanel hat.
From what we can see in these stills it seems to be a somewhat comical reflection of the era that made Coco Chanel.
The film is 10 minutes in total and consists of two parts. First part is set in 1913 and the second part is set in 1923, so the film portrays Chanel’s rise to success. The 1923 part also features a portrayal of Chanel’s lover the Grand Duke Dmitri Pavlovich – one of her many inspirations for transforming masculine fabrics into wearable ladies’ outfits.
“I always loved silent movies,” said Lagerfeld, who also believes that in today’s world of text messages and emails, people will start to appreciate silent movies again.
Lagerfeld added, “Everybody this year has decided to make a movie about Chanel, and you know their historical worth is not always too exact.”
