Maria Grachvogel debuted her 2009 collection at the Claridges Hotel in London last week. Having been hailed as the designer of ‘magic pants’ – flattering the good bits, hiding the bad – Grachvogel has since outspokenly announced the dire situation in the current British modeling scene.

“I work with the body, not against it,” said Grachvogel, “I have always been someone who would request that model agencies send me their curviest girls. But this time they were too tiny to fill a pair of size 10 trousers.”

With curvy girls such as Scarlett Johansson and Angelina Jolie on Grachvogel’s regular clientele list, it’s not wonder the designer’s annoyed at the BMI standards dropping in the London fashion scenes again. The greatest tragedy that these ‘size 0’ standards in the fashion world has seen was when two models, Luisel Ramos and Ana Carolina Reston died from Anorexia Nervosa in 2006.
