Tyra, Nicole, Hillary & Condoleezza: Glamour Magazine’s Women of the Year

The December issue of Glamour magazine (which was out on Newsstands November 11) features their 2008 Women of the Year selections, with nominees selected by Glamour’s Women of the Year Advisory Board. The board is made up of past honorees such as Diane von Furstenberg, Nora Ephron and Queen Latifah.

Amongst this year’s Top 10 were Tyra Banks, Nicole Kidman, Hillary Clinton and Condoleezza Rice.

The theme of the day was about women who put in a lot of time and effort this year to raise awareness on women’s issues and women’s rights, such as Tyra Banks always hollering at us to appreciate diversity in beauty and body image. Banks is also found of the TZONE Foundation, which encourages self-esteem in young women.

Nicole Kidman was selected for using her star power as a Goodwill Ambassador for UNIFEM, the United Nations Development Fund for Women, raising awareness about violence against women.

Hillary Clinton was selected for rather obvious reasons – putting those million little cracks in the glass ceiling.

Condoleezza Rice put women’s issues at the forefront of US foreign policy and this year announced the One Woman Initiative, a $100 million effort to empower women in Muslim countries.

Hillary wowed the Fashion Police this week when she turned up to the Glamour Women of the Year Awards in a gorgeous Isaac Mizrahi gown (above).
