Vivienne Westwood receives Medal of Excellence at Wapole Awards
Dame Vivienne Westwood received the Medal of Excellence at the 2008 Wapole Awards for Excellence in British Luxury on Monday night. She gave a very long speech about the importance of quality over quantity, and made some comparisons to the French Revolution.
“She has always been a beacon shining brightly in the fashion world and her influence on some of the greatest international fashion names is legendary,” said Julia Carrack, CEO of Wapole.
Wapole represents over 100 British luxury companies and honoured Westwood specifically for her Red Label collection, which she showed at this year’s London Fashion Week.
Other winners on the night included Chanel, for Best International Luxury Brand and Net-a-Porter.com for Best British Luxury Brand Online.
“Many of Britain’s major luxury brands have existed for hundreds of years and have ridden out various highs and lows. Newer luxury brands can feel confident that the British luxury industry will seek out new opportunities and continue to position itself as a worldwide luxury leader,” said Carrack.
