Vogue Hommes Japan
Nicola Formichetti, supper cool & edgy up stylist, now adds fashion director of Vogue Hommes Japan to his repatwa. Nicola previews the new Hedi Slimane cover of the inaugural issue. Debuts September 10th.
Looks like an unappealing skinny skater guy playing dress up in a Japanese wardrobe in a generic poorly lit digital image. Perhaps that’s just my take on this.
Nicola Formichetti first appeared in Dazed & Confused as a model in 1999, but his early signature style of mixing sportswear with graphic and the slightly kitsch came to be the Alpha aesthetic of millennial menswear, a counterpoint Hedi Slimane darker look.
Nicola Formichetti and his list achievement read quite well if you would agree: Dazed & Confused creative director, Another Man senior fashion editor, Vogue Hommes Japan fashion director and so on. He also consults for Uniqlo, Prada, McQ, D&G, Kim Jones, Gareth Pugh, Levi’s and Romain Kremer. Quite an amazing career he got going there, well deserved I think.

Call me unsopisticated but outside of his being famous for things we have to analize cautiously cause we are just beyond the level of understanding required. Do we follow the sheep and call him a genius or do we dare to disagree and take a chance on looking like a schmuck. Not my thing to see a harness on the head of anything but a horse, but that’s just me. The model is very handsome in a brooding, relentlessly dark way. I cannot say this photography is something appealing to the female – at least not this female.

Ya know I could pretend to understand some abstract concepts at work here but can’t get a positive take on it. I’d look at it again, but it’s not interesting.

I cannot discern any good aspects of these ads or clothes.

He looks good but does he? Does he take a girl on a fun date I meant. Looks like he needs an antidepressant.

I agree with you all – don’t like the ad or the model. The flower head piece kind of freaks me out.
